When Should a Brand Hire an Amazon Agency Instead of Building In House?

There is no universal rule that every brand should hire an Amazon agency.

Some businesses should build internally. Some should outsource. Many benefit from a hybrid model.

The right answer depends on scale, complexity and the talent already inside the company.

When in-house makes sense

A large brand with meaningful Amazon revenue may justify dedicated internal specialists across advertising, catalog, operations and supply chain.

An internal team can also offer deep company context and fast cross-functional access.

If the organization can recruit, retain and manage strong marketplace talent, in-house can work extremely well.

Where internal teams struggle

Amazon changes constantly.

A small internal team sees one account every day. A marketplace agency sees patterns across many accounts, categories and business models.

That broader pattern recognition can help identify issues earlier and challenge internal assumptions.

Breadth is another issue. One Amazon manager may be excellent at advertising but weaker in Vendor Central, catalog architecture, inventory or account health.

When an agency makes sense

An agency is valuable when the marketplace has enough scale to matter but the business does not want to build every capability internally.

It can also make sense when an account has plateaued, inherited operational problems or needs a reset.

Navigas's ideal established client often already has meaningful marketplace revenue. Changes that improve performance therefore produce material business impact.

Startups can still be a fit

Revenue size is not the only qualification.

A startup with a strong product, adequate capital, reliable inventory and a serious team can be an excellent partnership.

What does not work is expecting an outside agency to compensate for a lack of product-market fit, inventory or internal commitment.

The hybrid model

Some of Navigas's best relationships involve capable internal teams.

Navigas provides senior marketplace strategy, external pattern recognition and operating depth while the client maintains internal brand, finance and supply-chain expertise.

The goal is not to replace good people.

It is to build the strongest marketplace operating system for the business.
